Let’s begin with a definition: Symposium (among the Ancient Greeks) a convivial meeting, usu. following a dinner, for drinking, conversation, and intellectual discussion.

The postings on the website and accompanying BLOG are intended to capture and extend our conversation that began at the D9680 Club Service Symposium in 2011.

The symposium was concerned with and developed a number of aspects of Club Service. These are shown on the Program posted here.

Underpinning the symposium were the following beliefs:

  • A key role of the District is to strengthen and support Clubs

  • A fundamental component of Rotary is the Club Meeting

  • The Club Meeting is the best PR and Membership strategy we have. It is essential therefore that clubs conduct dynamic meetings

  • The role of the Sergeant is vital in running dynamic meetings and is far more than simply conducting the fines session. Indeed many Clubs are limiting or abandoning fines sessions

  • Club Assemblies are more effective if conducted as agenda driven business meetings

  • If not addressed, conflict can be very destructive to a club. Simple conflict resolution strategies can help in providing structures and developing a culture to prevent negative outcomes

  • The Z Factor Score Tool is being developed to provide a simple way to help build a vibrant club
