Heart and Soul CD

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, Australian entertainment legend Kamahl joined General Peter Cosgrove at Parliament House to recite his rendition of the historic speech on November 19.

Lincoln's address was given at the Gettysburg Pennsylvania battlefield on November 19, 1863 and paid tribute to the fallen, cour-and-a-half months after the Union armies defeated those of the Confederacy at the Civil War battle. The speech has become one of the world's most memorable, evoking sentiments of nationhood, sacrifice, liberty and "the proposition that all men are created equal".

Kamahl has recorded his rendition of the address as part of his Heart and Soul CD compilation. As a Paul Harris Fellow he is hoping sales of the triple CD will raise at least $100,000 for Rotary International's End Polio Now! Campaign.

"Having recently met RI's Sydney Convention Chairman mark Maloney from the USA, my other wish would be for Heart and Soul to do the same in America, but on a relative scale that should raise at least $1 million, "Kamahl said.

Kamahl's recording of the address has already been warmly praised.

"Heart and Soul is one of the best CD's I have ever purchased", said Aussie entrepreneur and philanthropist Dick Smith. "Kamahl's rendition of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address is extremely moving. I recommend every Australian obtain this wonderful CD".

Malaysian-born Kamahl says he passionately agrees with the sentiments in Lincoln's oration.

"It expresses what being Australian is all about, even though it was written 150 years ago in another country".
