ROTARY: MAKING A DIFFERENCE
My Friends in Rotary,

What a ride!  What a way to start the new year!  What a way to learn about the 'real' Rotary!

Nineteen changeovers, twelve club visits so far and I even got to visit my club.

Every visit inspiring, every club making a significant difference in their community and in the wider world.

Some common themes also - how to better tell our story, how to attract new members (and how to create a club environment that remains attractive to them).

Recent RLI attendees were very enthusiastic about their experience, both new and longer serving members.  This re-confirms the value of attending a Rotary Leadership Institute event for all members.  And as a president reminded me, we should never stop learning in Rotary - there are so many facets and something for everyone.

A major message for "my year" is looking at how clubs engage in the community with partners and individuals.  Two recent examples of excellence in this space are:
  • The Sri Lankan community evening held by Hills Kellyville club presenting to the local community the work the club has underway in Sri Lanka.  Building relationships, attracting supporters and new members.  Well done Haran and team.
  • The recent MOU signing between District and PCYC at Wahroonga club - the difference this year being the commitment of PCYC to have club managers join local Rotary Clubs and have Rotarians joining the PCYC advisory boards and provide mentoring.  Our joint history goes back to the commencement of PCYC and this brings our relationship back to being a partnership, not just a financial support.  Thanks to Peter Kirkwood for his extensive work in bring this to fruition.
These are great examples of our theme of Rotarians: Making a Difference.  Re-examining the relationships your club has with other organisations and groups will create many new opportunities to make a difference.  Of that I have no doubt.

So in amongst the great work you are doing today, take the time to visit other clubs, ask questions, get inspired.
