ROTARY SERVING HUMANITY
My Friends in Rotary,

Another exciting month of Rotary for the District Governor and Partner! August was Membership Month......and we met a lot of Members!

The DG Official Zone Visit rolled into The Mountains and The North Shore. Thank you to the Clubs who attended and shared a great Enjoy Rotary! Night. From music with Pat Drummond to enthusiastic discussions about joint Club projects plus a large dose of friendship, we all had a lot of Fun! Well organised by AGs David Hart and Swapna Prasad....Thank you.

On the 18th, I joined North Sydney Rotary in signing "Happy Birthday" to mark their 88th Birthday. Our Oldest Club has a proud history of Serving Humanity but also was the first Rotary Club to host our founder, Paul Harris, when he visited Australia in 1935......and they have a tree to prove it! Congratulations President Jeremy and the Club.

Every Club that we have visited is making a difference in their community and Doing Good in the World. The Mayor of Hawkesbury hosted a reception on 3 August in honour of the incoming District Governor, attended by me, of course, and Members of the combined Hawkesbury Rotary Clubs. In reality, the function is to pay respect and to say THANKS to the local Rotarians. This is the Mayor's way of recognising their service to the people of the Hawkesbury. They do Rotary proud up round the river!

Hills-Kellyville Rotary conducted their Schools Writing Competition in August. I was pleased to join two local Members of Parliament in presenting the prizes. The enthusiasm of the students, their parents and their teachers was a delight to behold. The Awards night was a truly multi-cultural event with about 150 citizens celebrating the success of their children with the opportunity being made possible by Rotary. A truly fabulous effort!

Thank you to Glenhaven Rotary! You arranged a really enjoyable Welcome/Farewell BBQ for our Incoming and Outgoing Rotary Youth Exchange students. From the Welcome to Country, Didgeridoo concert, Aboriginal cultural presentation, Egg Throwing Championship, Damper Cooking Comp to the Ultimate Vegemite Eating World RYEP record.......with the sunniest day this side of summer...... It was a great day. Enjoyed by the students, the host families, the Rotarians and Bette and I.

The Rotary Foundation has transferred $134,000 into the D9685 Grants Committee account. PDG David Rands and David Dean and their teams are working now to approve your Clubs applications. This is the dividend on your contributions to the Foundation 3 years past. If your Club has not applied for a grant, please think about doing so. District Grants can really help you move your projects from planning into reality. BUT....please do not forget that we need to give to be able to receive. Bringing your Club and your friends along to celebrate the Centennial of the Foundation at the Million Dollar Dinner is one way of giving.....please consider putting a table together.

Through the month AG Russell Grove had reasons to be in Chicago and decided to visit the Rotary One Centre. Having arranged that, he decided to drop in and hang out with the Chief, as you do! Please see below a delightful family album shot of Russell with RI President John Germ. When you see Russell, please ask him what advice he gave to John.

Remember to book in for the DG Official Zone Visits,
  • The North West on Saturday 3 September
  • The Hills on Friday 9 September
  • The Central Coast on Wednesday 14 September
You will enjoy it!

Have a great Rotary September...It is Literacy Month. Read a book, give a book and support Books in Homes!

Hope to meet you during the month at your Club,
