Congratulations go to Johnny Thomson RC Dee-Why Warringah for his Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his service to football and to the community, and t0 Theo Glockemann, District International Chair from RC Pennant Hills, for his award of the Order of Australia Medal in the same QB Honours list. Theo is the indefatigable "Father" of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program in Timor Leste. Well done Johnny and Theo.
RYLA in Timor Leste has also generated the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) up there, and the alumni of both programs work in "Rylarian District Community Service Committees" with Dili Rotaractors on local projects for youth. This is a great example of the ripple effect in a country where the need for youth development and leadership is so pressing. Our own Winter RYPEN has just finished at Springwood and thanks go to Dave Clark, President of RC Lower Blue Mountains, for his excellent direction of the Camp. Dave was assisted by a great team of mentors - mostly Rotaractors and former Rotaractors who have been through RYPEN and RYLA - and a support team including Camp Mum and Dad, Cathy and Harry Holzmann from RC Blackheath. Good job!
Sticking with Youth, most of our Inbounds leave for home in the next four weeks. It has been great to see these young people develop and grow in confidence over the year. You have been great ambassadors for your countries, Rotary Clubs and families, well done, and see you back here some day.
Last news I talked about giving to the Foundation at year's end as a way of "paying it forward", and I am going to ask you once again to consider boosting your contributions and doing it before changeover - pay now, announce later! There is so much need in the world and I believe The Rotary Foundation is the best use of our collected funds. If Clubs could commit to giving 15% of their raised funds to TRF, we would be doing a power of good in the world.
I had better go and get ready for District Changeover .... see you there!
