Interplast Australia & New Zealand (Interplast) is a not-for-profit organisation founded by Rotarians and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 1983. Interplast is actively supported by Rotarians in clubs and districts throughout Australia and New Zealand and Rotarians continue to play an integral role in the governance of Interplast.

Interplast works to improve the quality of life for people who are disabled as a result of congenital or acquired medical conditions such as cleft lip and palate or burn scar contractures. They do this by sending fully qualified Australian and New Zealand volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to professionals to provide life changing surgery in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.  They focus heavily on facilitating medical training and mentoring for in-country medical personnel by supporting, and building the capacity of local health services and has established a reputation for high quality service delivery. Thirty years later, Interplast has performed over 32,000 consultations, provided over 21,000 procedures and delivered training to hundreds of in-country medical personnel.

Interplast partners with local organisations, including hospitals, universities and local NGOs. Their purpose is to ‘repair bodies and rebuild lives’ and do this providing surgical services to those who could not otherwise afford or access these, and by building the capacity of local medical systems through training and mentoring programs.
