DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE
D9685 Greater Sydney Flood Appeal
Thanks to those clubs that have conducted public collections and through donations from clubs, Rotarians and the public, our RAWCS Appeal is at $90,000. Add to this the Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Grant boosted by a 5% Woolworths discount on Gift Cards and I estimate we will distribute over $105,000 in store gift cards to those affected by floods mainly along the Hawkesbury River.
Thanks also the clubs and members who have managed the distribution of gift cards and continue to do so.
It’s an amazing response and you can still donate at RAWCS Greater Sydney Flood Appeal and this appeal will close end April.

ANZAC Day April 25: Thank you to those veterans amongst our ranks for your service and we hope you commemorate with former colleagues.

Rotary support for UKRAINE: Never before has the need for Rotary’s goals for Peace been as important as now. Watch this video about Rotary’s support for refugees from the Ukraine and the account from the Ukrainian representative to the recent Council on Legislation in Chicago.

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, May 28-29
Many clubs have had a long association assisting with the Red Shield Appeal doorknock collection and it’s been impacted just like our Rotary fundraising these last two years. I'm sure The Salvos would welcome many feet on the ground on Sunday May 29.

June 30, 2022:  Only 10 weeks to go (but who’s counting?)
It’s time to review your Club Goals in Rotary Club Central. Some can be finessed to allow for projects that COVID curtailed, like youth programs. As I review the achievements across our district there’s every reason why your club should be acknowledged with a Presidential Citation. It just requires some time and effort online at myrotary.org
There are still many projects underway including nominations for;
  • Rotary Emergency Service Community Awards (closes May 10)
  • Rotary Inspirational Women’s Awards (closes 9 June).
  • It’s time for D9685 to start cleaning up our silverware, various awards and forms are available at this link: nomination forms for awards (see the full criteria at this link)
  • District Assembly commences Sunday May 1 and clubs should have Boards in place and be meeting to Imagine their plans for 2022-23.
District Changeover:  Our Changeover 2022 will be held at Hornsby RSL on Saturday, July 2, 6.30 for 7pm
Come and celebrate your year. District awards will be presented and we can once again come together as a District to acknowledge what has been achieved, despite another tough year in Rotary. Welcome Mina Howard as District Governor 2022-23 in what will be a milestone year with the exciting Jennifer Jones of Canada as RI President.

Saturday May 21 Federal Election:
I thank all our Rotary members holding public office for their contribution to society and wish them well over the coming weeks and remind all Rotary is a diverse and inclusive organisation.  We welcome membership from all areas of society but refrain from discussions that may lead to opposing views on matters of; religion, politics, race and other matters that could become contentious. In the run up to May 21 members need to respect the impartiality of Rotary and diverse opinions of all members.
Please refer to Article 14 Section 2 of The RI Club Model Constitution (extracts) that provide guidance ….

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT SHEKHAR MEHTA

Shekhar MehtaApril 2022

Friends, one of my mantras in Rotary has been do more, grow more. I am sure you are adopting this mantra. Do more, as in bigger and impactful service projects, and grow more, as in increasing our membership. There is so much excitement across the Rotary world about our Each One, Bring One effort. Everywhere I travel, club presidents, district governors, and Rotary members — both veteran and new — express appreciation that their membership efforts are inspiring the Rotary world.

We are growing more, and I cannot wait to celebrate all of this success with you at the Rotary International Convention in Houston in June. There is still time to register and make your plans to join us. We are looking forward to a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will unite our members after far too much time apart.
