The end of December and the New Year is a time for reflection and renewal.
After visiting 64 clubs the resilience and achievements are extraordinary.
Congratulations to all members of D9685.
Welcome to the 78 new and 22 returning Rotarians and it's crucial we actively engage these new members in rewarding projects to ensure their retention.
Many clubs have been successful with National Australia Day Council grants so please use the opportunity to engage with likeminded community members as prospective Rotarians.

Public health is on everyone’s mind due to the global pandemic that still threatens the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. In a sense, COVID-19 has made all of us much more aware of the roles and responsibilities of medical professionals than we were before we had to wear masks and maintain social distance. In addition, while moving through this pandemic, we have also learned about the role we can play in keeping others safe.
December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month in Rotary. The pandemic unfortunately has schooled most people on the toll that disease takes on our communities. But fighting disease is something that Rotarians around the world have been doing for decades. In fact, it is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus.
There is still time to register for the RLI 67 Learning Opportunity. Past RLI courses have concluded with great success and rave reviews. Don't miss out.
Take your Rotary leadership skills to the next level with RLI
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world.
RLI is a recommended program of Rotary International.
RLI seeks to provide quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills to Rotarians interested in developing their Rotary participation and to those identified by Rotary Clubs as having a potential in club leadership. These educational opportunities will teach skills that will benefit the members in their lives and in their volunteer service.
The Houston RI Convention is shaping up to be a cracker, and with so much to see and do in Texas, a great opportunity to have a break in the Lone Star State. If you are thinking of attending the Convention 4-8 June 2022, remember that December 15th (ie. 5.oo pm on 16.12.21 AEDT) is the last day to register for USD $475, and will be up to USD $575 thereafter, so only a few hours to go to make the most of the early bird discount. Conventions are a great way to experience the internationality of Rotary, see the spread of projects Action Groups and Fellowships in the House of Friendship.
Please join us in representing District 9685 in Texas and, yes, helping to promote RICON Melbourne 2023 by showing a good Aussie contingent.
Register for the Houston RICONhere, or for more information, also click on the RI Convention image at the end of this newsletter.

3. Club Boards
Most Clubs have now held their AGM for this current Rotary year. This included elections for the incoming Boards for 2022-2023. Now is the time to enter the names of your new Boards into ClubRunner. If you need help, please contact communications@rotarydistrict9685.org.au
4. Semi Annual Dues
31 December is the cutoff for membership updates. If unfortunately, you have members who are unbale, or do not wish, to continue their membership into 2022 you should terminate them from ClubRunner to avoid unnecessary billing from 1 January.

6. Communications
Over the next month, the Communications Chair will be taking some time to recuperate after another busy year. She will be pursuing the task to be completed over the next month to complete the development of the District Rotary Showcase and Speaker Bank.
In the DG's eNews of 7th October, District & Club Resources online were discussed. Much is happening behind the scenes on the D9685 website.
The D9685 Learning & Development centre now contains L&D current and archived training sessions. This site continues to be updated as new training events occur
Information has been updated including those areas for Public Image, Administration, Youth, Insurance, Membership, Foundation and more as an ongoing effort to provide current and relevant information.
Rotary District Showcase is about to go live and we ask Clubs to submit stories about successful club projects to spark ideas for others or to gain collaborative support for continuing projects. This area has not yet been published and Club News and the Speaker Bank are much in need of updating. This is the target area for the next month.
The Club Buzz was introduced in that issue for Club events to be promoted so others can watch interesting speakers or get involved in other club's events. This has been developing into a small, relevant interactive section of the newsletters. Input for this section from all of you would be greatly appreciated. If Marilyn Kenney does not receive this information from Clubs, your information can not be promoted to other members.
More details will follow towards the end of January and many thanks to those involved in this methodical review and update process.
"The Club Buzz" is where you will find some exciting and relevant programs or events happening in our Clubs and in District 9685.
Just Look HEREfor the latest activities and news. In almost every case, the headings or whole item are linked to either a larger copy of the document, or more information. So just click on the headings or item in the Club Buzz pages.

Radio is a powerful way to spread your Club stories. If your Club has a project, local or overseas, which would interest the wider general public, discuss it with Rotary Matters presenter Ian Stuart who will be glad to help spread the word. Ian.stuart@optusnet.com.au 0416 138 860
