ST IVES FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL
SUNDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER
After our fabulously successful annual event last year we look forward to another brilliant day of family fun, with something for everyone, at the St Ives Food and Wine Festival on the beautiful St Ives Village Green, Sunday 22 September 2024 from 10am to 4.00pm.

You will delight in wine tasting from premium and boutique wineries, liqueurs, handmade spirits and cocktails. Enjoy delicious multi-cultural cuisine from fabulous food trucks. Meander through the luxury lifestyle stalls to your heart’s content and take home gourmet products and wonderful items for your home.

Be entertained by live music throughout the day. The kids will love the animals at the petting zoo, the Planet Entertainment ride, and face-painting at the North Shore Mums stand.

Remember to visit Rotary St Ives stall where there is fun for children, and the young at heart, plus an opportunity to be in the running for a lucky draw every half hour!

This family friendly community event is an outstanding way for people on the North Shore to “pay it forward and support others” while having a fun day with family and friends. All proceeds raised from this event will support Ku-ring-gai Neighbourhood Centre, The Cromehurst Foundation and Rotary Club of St Ives community and youth projects.

Your attendance is a marvellous way to have an enjoyable day with your family and friends as well as helping others in our community in a way we can’t do as individuals, but can, by working together.

BOOKS IN HOMES WITH TURRAMURRA ROTARY
On Tuesday, 20th August 2024, the Rotary Club of Turramurra held a Trivia and Fun Night to raise funds for their Books in Homes project for Moree East Public School. This the third year for this fundraiser and every year it grows in numbers and money raised. Seven Rotary Clubs participated, plus community members, to give a total of 150 participants and close to $7,000 was raised.

All present entered into the spirit of the night, spending up on the raffle, the silent auction and Jokers and Mulligans to help them with the Quiz. There was a lot of fun and laughter especially with the fun activities, a caption competition, and a game of ‘Sit down if…’.

Outstanding co-operation from Rotary Club members and local businesses resulted in many quality auction items and raffle prizes including wine, accommodation, gym membership, paintings and a box of beautiful new books donated by ‘Books in Homes’.

Pam Pritchard, Project Chair, spoke briefly about the project and related it to the recent NAPLAN results. She told the group about research into reading and the importance of reading from physical books rather than E-readers.
Pam has a past connection with Moree East Public School which has an 87% Aboriginal population. Her parents taught at the Aboriginal School situated on the Aboriginal Station three miles out of town, and for one year, her family lived on the Station. Pam saw the discrimination and abject poverty first hand.

On their last visit to Moree in July 2024, the group of Rotarians and friends joined the school children in their NAIDOC activities. They were also invited to the Aboriginal Centre where they met the local Aboriginal Elders. They chatted to them and heard their sad stories. Pam spoke to one of the Elders who was in her mother’s Kindergarten class.

The $7,000 raised, plus a District Grant organized by Chatswood/Roseville Rotary Club and Christmas Pudding sales by North Ryde Club, will cover the cost of Books in Homes for Moree East Public School in 2025.
