UK born, John emigrated to Sydney’s Northern Beaches as a child. His first part time job was at McDonalds, Brookvale on the day it opened. The store’s owner was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Brookvale in 1982 giving John his first Rotary experience. His first full-time position was a traineeship with Rank Electronics in conjunction with obtaining his electronic engineering qualifications. He started in professional audio and lighting, then the professional photographic division. In time, with two partners, he purchased this division from Rank, and ran a company which imported and distributed large scale professional photo equipment for 11 years. In the late 90s whilst completing his business degree he was offered the Colonial State Bank franchise for the Northern Beaches. Having seen the writing on the wall with the photo industry he sold his share in the company and took up the franchise.

In early 1998 John was invited to be a guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Dee Why. One of his staff was already a member so he was not invited to join. The next week he met his old McDonald’s Manager who invited him to RC Brookvale which he joined. In 2020 he joined Rotary Club of Blackheath as he had moved to the top of the Blue Mountains at Mt Victoria.

John’s club roles include as president 3 times, club treasurer more times than he can count and Club Service role. John has a daughter who is a teacher and his son is in banking as well as being a Rotarian and RYLA graduate.
