As we approach the Festive Season, we wish you a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to a prosperous New Year. Where has the year gone? 59 Club visits and I am continually amazed at the work being done by Rotary Clubs, despite the challenges of 2021.
Thank you to Presidents who attended the combined meeting on Saturday 27 November. Also, thank you to the many Past District Governors and partners who attended a luncheon following the mornings meetingsI appreciate the support and encouragement from a big turnout at Hornsby RSL. This showed me the value of meeting in person, with great camaraderie between the Presidents and District Team members and there’s a lot of collaboration happening that allows clubs to scale up their delivery of goodwill and service.
It’s time to book your place

District Governor 2021-2022
Delta and Omicron send shivers, but I believe we are aware of what we need to do to mitigate this virus and we have one of the world’s leading virologists Prof Dominic Dwyer (Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar) on hand to give us the low down on Wuhan as part of his WHO mission there and also what to expect in the future.
Prof Dwyer is a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar as is Prof Andrew Skidmore coming from The Netherlands. Andrew heads up the ITC Faculty of Geo-information Science & Earth Observation at the University of Twente, The Netherlands.
Put simply, he has written the algorithms that interpret satellite observations that measure; atmosphere, environment, temperature, salinity, nitrogen, vegetation and biodiversity observations from around the globe.
Two speakers after accepting our invitation have been recognised by the NSW National Australia Day Council.
Prof Veena Sahajwalla a Uni NSW Environmental Engineer will talk about Sustainable Materials Research & Technology. She has invented a method of recycling clothing and glass and creating high quality building materials such as tiles and benchtops. She is NSW Australian of the Year 2022.
Dr Daniel Nour from Royal North Shore Hospital nominated as NSW Young Australian of the Year 2022 will describe his remarkable achievement of creating Street Side Medics where over 140 medical volunteers provide a medical outreach to the homeless and disadvantaged, thus far, across the Sydney basin.  Check out the Conference website for MORE fabulous speakers.
Saturday 19 will be fast and furious, but allowing extra-long breaks so Rotarians can do what they love to do and that’s catch up with friends from across the district.
Visit the Friendship Circle a club showcase and you’re invited to show all delegates what is being developed and implemented by your club with the intention of expanding projects to other clubs.
It’s now critical to our planning that we have a huge registration effort in the next few weeks.
Some crucial planning decisions need to be made by 17 December and the Early Bird rate for the conference and accommodation ends 31 December 2022.
Come and stay at the Novotel West HQ for Friday and Saturday and enjoy a weekend holiday at Rooty Hill RSL. West HQ is amazing and clubs can get together on Saturday night and eat at one of the many restaurants in Eat Street.
