Vale PDG Maurie Stack OAM 2 Dec 2025
Below edited from tributes from;
Past Rotary International Director Jessie Harman AM
Rotary International Director Jennifer Scott AM
It is with a very heavy hearts we share news that Past District Governor Maurie Stack OAM passed away earlier this week. Maurie served as District Governor D9650 (now D9660) in 2015-2016.
Maurie dedicated four years as Chair of Rotary Foundation Australia, from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2024, significantly expanding the Foundation's ability to facilitate grants both within Australia and overseas. He and his wife, Dee, were generous supporters of The Rotary Foundation and members of the Arch Klumph Society.
Largely because of Maurie's work, Rotary Foundation Australia is now able to unlock donations from a broader base of Australian donors and facilitate grants within Australia and overseas.
Beyond his outstanding service to Rotary, Maurie was a highly respected Australian solicitor and legal leader. As Chair and former Managing Director of Stacks Law Firm, he guided the practice, founded by his father, into one of the most significant regional-based law groups in the country.
His dedication to justice and governance was profound. He served for many years on the Council of the Law Society of New South Wales, including as President in 1995. His innovative approach provided clients with a more holistic and compassionate approach to law, and he was awarded Life Membership of the Law Society in 2019 for his extraordinary service and unwavering advocacy for the rule of law.
Maurie’s passing is a significant loss to Rotary, the Australian legal community, and the Mid North Coast. He will be remembered as a servant leader, a champion for justice, and a kind, compassionate, and optimistic individual. He was equally generous with his time, his talents and his many and deep connections. He was a friend to us all and will be dearly missed.
Maurie leaves a great legacy through our Rotary Foundation and Rotary more broadly. Our thoughts are with his wife, Dee, and the family at this very sad time.
