Paul Harris Fellow Recognition

Rotary was founded by Paul Harris, a lawyer, and three business associates in Chicago on 23 February 1905. In his honour since 1957, Paul Harris Fellows have been recognised to express appreciation for contributions to the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation.

Anyone who donates US$1,000 or more to the Annual Fund or has that amount contributed in their name may become a Paul Harris Fellow.

When a Rotary Club cumulative donations reach US$1,000, The Rotary Foundation allows the Club to recognise a person in their club or in their community as a Paul Harris Fellow, often to highlight appreciation for community or international service. When a Rotarian’s personal cumulative donations reach US$1,000, The Rotary Foundation provides Paul Harris Fellow Recognition to her or him personally, AND authorises that person to award an additional Paul Harris Fellow Recognition to anyone else of their choice; this might be a relative, a work colleague, or someone in the community.

Additional recognition opportunities are created with each additional US$1,000 donated.

Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate, and a lapel pin. The certificate states the person has been named a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world.

The Centurion Program

The Centurion program is a convenient way to make a personal contribution to our charity, The Rotary Foundation in addition to Rotary Club fundraising contributions. The Centurion annual donation of AUD$100 a year can be made in manually each year or via regular deductions if requested.

The funds are paid to the Australian Rotary Foundation Trust, going to either Polio Plus or the Annual Fund at your discretion. Your contribution is recognised by the presentation of a personalised Certificate by your club each year.

Your individual contribution counts towards a Paul Harris Fellowship and adds to your club’s Annual Giving total when you direct the funds to Annual Fund. This program returns about 45% of your donation to our District as District Designated Funds for use in District and Global Grants, with the remainder supporting other Rotary Foundation efforts, such as Peace Fellows, Polio, and Programs of Scale.

Partners and friends of Rotarians are welcome to become Centurions and their support will be most welcome.

To become a Centurion by card, EFT or cheque, complete this form ⬇️ and send by email to your Club Foundation Chair and Rotary South Pacific (risspo.finance@rotary.org).

Club Contributions (for Groups of Individual Members) can be made by EFT using the Multiple Donor Form ⬇️ and transfer the funds to The Australian Rotary Foundation Trust (BSB 342-011 Account 663499001). Please email the form to Rotary South Pacific (risspo.finance@rotary.org) when you deposit the funds into the account so that each member will receive a tax-deductible receipt for their donations.

The Paul Harris Society

The Paul Harris Society recognises Rotarians and friends of The Rotary Foundation who personally contribute US$1,000 or more to the Annual Fund, PolioPlus or an approved Foundation grant each year.

Paul Harris Society members bring positive change to communities around the world. In any given year, less than 3 percent of Rotary Foundation donors contribute at the Paul Harris Society level or above, yet their contributions represent approximately 35 percent of all annual giving. As Rotary Foundation grants and activities are largely funded by Annual Fund contributions, Paul Harris Society members help determine how many individuals, families and communities Rotary can impact each year.

The Paul Harris Society has been, and will continue to be, one of The Rotary Foundation’s most important ways to thank and recognise continued generosity.  Each Rotary district is encouraged to honour and recognise Paul Harris Society members in accordance to the individual donor’s wishes and as culturally appropriate. All members of the Paul Harris Society are eligible to receive a wearable recognition insignia in appreciation for their support.  Displaying the PHS insignia with a Paul Harris Fellow or Major Donor pin can help build awareness and enthusiasm for the work that Rotary does locally and around the world.

To join the Paul Harris Society, read this brochure and complete the form within ⬇️, and notify the District Foundation and Administration Chairs (foundation@rotarydistrict9685.org.au, administration@rotarydistrict9685.org.au) by email to ensure your recognition.

Benefactors & Bequest Society Members

You can leave a gift in your will to Endowment Fund of The Rotary Foundation to secure Rotary's role in the world and work to improve the quality of life for future generations. This can be specified as a percentage of your estate, a residuary (after debts and taxes), specific amounts including cash, property, shares, artworks, or other tangible personal property, or contingent, with conditions such as the death of another beneficiary.

When you include the Endowment Fund as a beneficiary of US $1,000 or more in your estate plans or when you donate US$1,000 or more to the fund outright, you become a benefactor of the Rotary Foundation. Benefactors receive a certificate and insignia to wear with a Rotary or Paul Harris Fellow pin.

Couples or individuals who have made commitments of $10,000 or more in their estate plans, such as in a will, living trust, or through whole or universal life insurance, can become Bequest Society members. All Bequest Society members receive recognition from the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation. Donors may elect to receive an engraved crystal recognition piece and a Bequest Society pin.

Download the Bequest Society ⬇️ and Benefactor ⬇️ brochures, and contact the District 9685 Foundation Giving team for queries and clarifications via administration@rotarydistrict9685.org.au
