I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and joyful Christmas, celebrated in ways that were meaningful to you and your loved ones. As we begin a new year, I wish you all a very happy New  Year and trust that 2026 has started with renewed energy, optimism and purpose for Rotary and for you personally.

District Governor's-Elect International Assembly 2026

From 10 January 2026, I had the privilege of attending the Rotary International District Governor-Elects Assembly in Orlando, an intensive five-day experience of learning, connection and inspiration. I joined over 500 District Governors-Elect from around the world, sharing ideas, perspectives and a common commitment to service. The assembly provided invaluable preparation for the year ahead, with world-class sessions on leadership, strategy, membership, Foundation and service impact. Hearing the vision and message of incoming Rotary International President Olayinka Hakeem Babalola was a highlight, reinforcing the collective purpose and responsibility we share as we prepare to lead our districts. I return energised, better equipped, and grateful for the lifelong connections and friendships formed with Rotary leaders from across the globe.

Our District was so proud of our member from the Crows Nest Rotary Club, Michael McQueen. A great presentation on Change that was motivating and inspiring. It was wonderful catching up with old and new friends from around the world. Our Zone 8 was well represented by RI Director Jennifer Scott AM, who also joined our District Governor-Elect cohort during our meeting with Rotary International General Secretary and CEO John Hewko. There are updates, which will be communicated at the next Presidents and District team meeting in February 2026.

The Rotary International 2026 message is Create Lasting Impact. Rotary International President-elect Olayinka H. Babalola called on members to Create Lasting  Impact by making their clubs more welcoming, carrying out impactful projects, and allowing their Rotary experiences to transform them personally. Change and impact are not the same, he added: "Change is only the beginning. You never know whose Rotary story might begin — or end — based on the way you make them feel at a meeting or service project," he said.

January is Rotary's Vocational Service Month — a powerful reminder that our professions are more than careers; they are platforms for service. This month challenges us to use our skills, experience and influence to lead with integrity, uplift others, and create lasting impact in our communities, proving that how we work can be just as important as what we do.
